Technology Infused Lesson Plan

Technology in the classroom is essential for children’s lifelong skill of adaptability as well as their relatability to the subject at hand. Using the correct device or application for its appropriate subject is essential for success in the classroom. During the midterm we were given a set of circumstances based on our selected grade level and subject. With my subject being physical education and grade level being at the 8th grade level, using the “Explain Everything” application was not only the most practical piece of technology to use but the most innovative given a majority of teachers budgets.

Learner Prior Knowledge: Students will with prior basketball knowledge, will be paired into groups with students with little to know basketball knowledge to maximize peer to peer education.

Relevance/Rationale: (Why are the outcomes of this lesson important in the real world? Why are these outcomes essential for future learning?) The relevance of the drills and fundamentals are teaching children that even in the most skilled events, everything is broken down into smaller much easier to attain skills and pieces and to be able to gather much skill, even more practice is needed to do so.

Formative Assessment Criteria for Success: (How will you & your students know if they have successfully met the outcomes? What specific criteria will be met in a successful product/process? What does success on this lesson’s outcomes look like?) Students will know they are successful if they’re all able to adequately execute drills and be able to understand the basic rules and activities of the sport of basketball. The criteria of what is deemed successful is group growth, since groups are created to range from novice, to highly skilled. Having everyone be able to come out of each group with basic knowledge not only teaches novices rules and skills but it also teaches the most skilled children how to communicate better among their peers.

Activities/Tasks: (What learning experiences will students engage in? How will you use these learning experiences or their student products as formative assessment opportunities?) Students will be assessed with group cohesiveness and creativity with the application ‘Explain Everything’.

Resources/Materials: (What texts, digital resources, & materials will be used in this lesson?) The explain everything app and “Better Basketball” videos will be implemented to teach children the fundamentals and drills of basketball.

Access for All:  (How will you ensure that all students have access to and are able to engage appropriately in this lesson? Consider all aspects of student diversity.) Getting students together in groups of 5 and making sure a minimum of 1 of the 5 has access to a smartphone, tablet or Ipad so everyone is able to use the app to participate.

Modifications/Accommodations: (What curriculum modifications and/or classroom accommodations will you make for Students with Disabilities in your class? Be as specific as possible.) Students who have hearing disabilities may not be able to perform drills or activities that may require much verbal communication. However they will be able to draw out physical basketball plays on the ‘Explain Everything’ app and be just as involved as everyone else.
